I'm still crafting over here on Rue Canyon Court - probably more than ever before! During the pandemic I learned how to metal-stamp and I've been working on improving my skill - which takes a long time and quite a bit of practice - but the pandemic has been good for that! I've also been playing with clay. I made these Christmas tree ornaments quite a while back, but I wanted to be sure to include them so you can see what I've been doing lately. For the last crafting retreat that I organized, I gave everyone a clay tree ornament. These are made from Springerle cookie molds. I enjoy clay and I want to learn more and more about it. Here is the assembly line of my trees. I think I made 40 for the retreat. Once you finish them, they look so pretty with clear glitter glued all over them. They're all sparkly and pretty hanging from the tree as the lights catch the glitter. These ornaments are wet and they turn a beautiful white when they're dry. I'll show you a finished one very soon! I miss all of you and I hope everyone is doing well.

penguinstamperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06834046678863359283noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-410391424007355617.post-7020467113662426352020-04-21T13:30:00.001-05:002020-04-21T13:30:29.868-05:00Fairy Matchboxes and Beautiful ButterfliesHello and Good Day to You!

Several weeks ago I was looking at beautiful printables online and I came across some adorable fairies and butterflies that you could decorate matchboxes with. I enjoy making things like this, so I immediately purchased the printables, which included the template for the matchbox, and I made several matchboxes. I have them displayed in a cookbook hutch with a glass door. Each time I pass by, I have to smile because they are just so darn cute! I thought you might like to see them. You can decorate them any way you wish - and the sky is the limit! I guess that's what makes them so much fun. I purchased the template and the printables from Pixie Hill Studio on Etsy, if you find yourself wishing to make some!
Are you on bunny overload? LOL! I've also been busy making some Easter and Christmas domino necklaces. I'll share those soon! I hope you all have a wonderful Easter.
We recently ended up with an abundance of bananas in our house - and neither one of us eat that many bananas, so the logical thing to do was to make banana bread. The funny thing is, I've heard that lots of people are making banana bread right now. That made me laugh because I next to never make banana bread, but I am now! Banana bread is okay. It's not something that makes me jump up and down about, but when I tried this recipe, I really liked it! I made three mini loaves the day before yesterday and gave one to Ms. Lily and Ms. Genice, two of my sweet neighbors. Our little loaf didn't last long, so I made three more mini loaves this morning. The house smells heavenly, and there is nothing quite like warm banana bread with a little pad of butter melted on top. Serve it with a cup of hot tea or coffee.......and you're there! I thought I would share the recipe with you. Another thing I was excited about is that I was able to get in Cricut Design Space and cut out a nice little box to put my mini loaves in when I'm giving them away. I'm happy when I can use my Cricut for things like this! I found some cute little envelope printables online and enclosed a quick note to tell them to enjoy their bread.

Grandma's Easy Banana Bread

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
1 cup mashed bananas (about 2 bananas)
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup chopped walnuts, pecans, or chocolate chips - optional

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a stand mixer, or hand-held, mix together softened butter and sugar until well combined. Then add in eggs and mix well. Next add in vanilla, sour cream or Greek yogurt, and mashed bananas. Then, while the mixer is on, slowly add the flour, baking soda, and salt and mix slowly until completely combined, scraping the sides and the bottom. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan or pans. If using one 9x5 loaf pan, bake bread for about one hour. If using three mini loaf pans, bake bread for about 35 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. (A note from me: Check your bread at 35 minutes because it might be done!) Let the bread sit for 10 minutes, then remove from pan and let cool completely on a wire rack. Serve and enjoy. I added chopped pecans and it was heavenly!

This recipe came from www.eatyourselfskinny.com.

Have a good day. Stay inside and stay safe!
How are you holding up during this coronavirus crisis? I would be lost without my love of papercrafts. It's getting me through every day. I saw a cute bunny garland on Pinterest and I used my Cricut machine to cut all 32 of them out. I purchased a Cricut machine several months ago. I was

concerned that it would be way over my head and it would cause more angst than happiness. I told myself that I would gradually work my way through learning as much as I could - that it's not a race or a contest - that I have no deadlines to meet - it's strictly a "fun" thing for me. I have done exactly that and I am completely in love with it! I still have a million things to learn with it, but that's okay. It's just for me and so far, I have completely enjoyed it. So, if you're thinking of getting one, DO! Here is my bunny garland. I love using newspaper print for anything. I think it's adorable and I may not want to take it down after Easter!
Are you surprised to hear from me? I've kind of surprised myself to be making a post this morning; however, with the Coronavirus Pandemic forcing us to stay home and slow down, I realized I had time to post some cards I've been making. It's carthartic, too, to feel that I can communicate with others while not even leaving home! So.........how is everyone doing? The funny thing for me is that while of course I'm troubled by everything that's going on, and it's certainly not a happy time, I am enjoying staying home and embracing a slower pace. I love that my calendar is completely free of any commitments and that I don't have to go anywhere or do anything. If something doesn't get taken care of today......well.......there's always tomorrow. No one is coming over and I don't have to go anywhere - it's freeing to me - and I love the calmness and tranquility. I do miss going to the grocery store, though, and I look forward to the day that if I decide to bake bread, I can run up to the store and get whatever I need, and that's not the case right now! ANYWAY, I've been having a great time crafting at home, so I'll share a few of those things.

I purchased a cute die a couple of months ago and just never used it until now. It's from Paper Smooches. I'm in love with it. It is absolutely perfect for the types of cards I like to make. I love the simpleness, the crispness, the cuteness, and how elegant it is. I've been going through all of my stamps to see what fits in that little rectangle. It works with so many sentiments. I have been putting together a family directory for all of my relatives, as well as a birthday list, so I'm going to try my best to send birthday cards to the women in our family. Sorry to the guys, but masculine cards are just not my forte, unless I find something perfect here pretty soon. I fussed around with adding rhinestones or pearls to some of the flowers, but I ended up taking them off. It seems perfect when it's kept simple.

Hope you are all doing great! It feels nice to post again!
She was 89 years old. She was my best buddy. She had been suffering from COPD and had been hospitalized several times with pneumonia. Each time she had pneumonia, it was harder and harder for her to recover. She finally felt that she had lived a good, long life and didn't want to be hospitalized anymore, so hospice came in to care for her 24/7 until she passed away last Wednesday, August 21st, at 7:28 p.m.

When she was in better health, we sure had fun together. We tore up the roads here in Katy shopping for all kinds of things. Her favorite store was Tuesday Morning. I'll never be able to visit a Tuesday Morning without wishing she were with me. I used to do her grocery shopping......and I hated every minute of it, but now I'd give anything to get her grocery list and do that shopping for her. I miss her sweet eyes and her sweet voice. I'll miss fluffing her hair with a hair pick. I'll miss taking her shopping for T-shirts and beaded jackets and white hoodies and shoes. She loved going to Wal-Mart, which I absolutely despised doing with her.......but now I'd give anything to take her to Wal-Mart one more time and let her browse up and down the aisles. One of my fondest memories will be when I would drive into The Atria parking lot to pick her up. She would be standing there under the carport, perfectly dressed, and smiling because she was happy to see me.

I'll miss you mom! You were my biggest fan and you encouraged me with my jewelry and you were so complimentary about my stamped cards. I didn't realize it at the time, but you were so generous with your kind words. You encouraged me. I wish I could hear those words again just to remember how sweet they were. I wish we could tear up the roads around here going to IHOP for waffles or French Toast or the Memorial City Mall where you loved to shop or Tuesday Morning. I'm happy that you're with dad now, and your mother, your father, and your sisters and brother. I wish you could tell me what it was like to meet your dad for the first time in Heaven because he passed away when you were an infant. That must have been such a sweet reunion.

Whenever I make brownies, I'll think of you. Whenever there is Kleenex left in a pocket that is washed and Kleenex is strewn all throughout the washer and dryer, I'll think of you. Whenever I see a black Dachshund, I'll think of you and how much you loved Schnitzel and Heidi. Whenever I eat Milky Ways, I'll think of you. Whenever I sit in church, I'll think of you. Whenever I see quilts, I'll think of you. Whenever I make Peach Cobbler, I'll think of you. Like my brother says, when I look up into the night sky and see stars twinkling, I'll ask you if you're one of them. Thank you for everything, Mom. I'm going to miss you so much. You are my best buddy and I love you.penguinstamperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06834046678863359283noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-410391424007355617.post-40986080469394652402019-07-01T14:31:00.000-05:002019-07-01T14:31:09.759-05:00Babies, New House, and Sympathy!Greetings!

Yesterday I had to (or got to!) pull out my stamping stuff and make some cards. Although I have totally immersed myself in making jewelry lately (gosh, it's just so much fun!), it felt really good to do some stamping and it reminded me of how much I love it! I have a good friend whose daughter just had a baby. Babies are my favorite theme to stamp for! When I saw the elephant punch being discontinued in the Stampin' Up! catalog, I debated and debated over whether to get it........and I'm so glad I did. I love this little guy - and using vintage papers with him is something I can tell I'm going to repeat over and over again!
The other exciting news is that my niece has purchased a new home! Champagne? Yes, please! Here's the card I made to celebrate this great occasion with her. On the inside, it says, "Come sit with me and drink champagne"! I'm so happy for she and her husband! This is Stampin' Up!'s "Good Neighbors" and "Balloon Celebrations" stamp sets. I cut out the houses and roofs and pop-dotted them up on the base. I put a tiny little rhinestone on all of the door knobs. SO CUTE!
Unfortunately, I also needed two sympathy cards. I like this style, easy and elegant, but gets the respectful message across. The little pearl on the tag is the finishing touch!
Have a wonderful day - and keep on stampin'!
Yes, I DO still stamp, just not as much as I used to. Here are some note cards that I just made. It's gotten me back into the stamping mode! The top note card was made using Stampin' Up!'s standard note cards. Love that they're cut, scored, and ready to go!

The "Mon Amie" note card was made using Stampin' Up!'s narrow note cards. I will be using these quite a bit because I tend to like smaller cards. I pulled out a really old and classy brass template, Finest Flourishes, from Stampin' Up! Just a simple dry embossed image with a greeting is all you need. It looks so crisp and clean.

What originally got me into making my own cards years and years ago was my love for dry embossing. I made a set of eight of these narrow note cards using different French terms: Mon Amie, Bonjour, Carte Postale, and Amour. I've been on a French kick lately!

I also made some really small business-sized cards (which has become a favorite of mine) with images of the Eiffel Tower. Yes, please! You can't see it, but there's a rhinestone in the center of the Eiffel Tower. The cards fit into a coin envelope, so they are as cute as can be.

I've still been making jewelry, too - another passion of mine. I saw this fleur-de-lis heart with crown charm and it had to be mine! See? It's the French thing!

I love the pink pearls and the antique brass together. It's so pretty and feminine. So, see? I'm still here and kicking - and enjoying all that retired life has to offer!
Yes, I'm still here - and thank you for always checking on me. I've been so caught up in making jewelry that I haven't been stamping very much lately, although I did make a collage thank-you note that I'll post soon. But for now, I'd like to share some of my newest jewelry creations with you. I changed the name of my Etsy Shop to One Cent Productions. It's nice to have an outlet where you can post your "things." I had closed my Etsy Shop down and realized I missed it over the past year. It gives me something to play with and brings me joy, whether I sell anything or not. It's more about the sharing that I love so much. Okay, on to the photos! I really enjoy making all types of jewelry - it's hard to stick with just one style - but one of my favorites is vintage-looking jewelry. I'm in love with this necklace. It's feminine with all of the tiny little pearls - and the bling puts a smile on my face.
See? I'm smitten with jewelry. It's a wonderful creative outlet and just as much of a money pit as stamping. LOL! Anyway, this necklace looks adorable with bluejeans and a white T-shirt. It's more casual and fun and great for everyday wear. Thanks for checking in! I'll post my collage thank-you note as soon as I can get a decent picture of it. Ta-Ta for now!
I love celebrating St. Patrick's Day because, after all, I do have a wee bit of Irish blood in me! I believe I have more Scottish blood, but I do have some Irish blood - so I'll KISS THE BLARNEY STONE! In celebration of this special day, I made a green garnet necklace and earrings. The necklace has a sweet little antique brass connector that has shamrocks on it. I wore this necklace and earrings today to meet a friend for lunch - Mexican food. I was wearing a cream-colored shirt, which looked beautiful with my green garnets.......until I dropped some cheese enchilada on my shirt. LOL! I just can't seem to eat a meal without getting it somewhere on me. The cheese enchilada "drop" fell just beneath where the end of my necklace falls, so I looked very classy indeed!
If you think stamping is an expensive hobby to have, try making jewelry. It will bankrupt you to a whole new level! But man, oh, man is it a world of fun and the creativity is insane! Here's a necklace and earrings I put together with Easter in mind, although you could wear it all during the spring. The pastel blue pearls give these pieces a nice touch of spring. The antique brass connector is filled with blooming flowers. My favorite element to add to any piece I make is, of course, bling in the form of rhinestone rondelles. You can see more of my jewelry in my Etsy shop at www.madebyjimmisdaughter.etsy.com. I'll have more jewelry coming up soon - it just takes some time to photograph things and get it in my shop - and I usually have a limited amount of time to do it! Have a lovely day and we'll talk soon.
One of my favorite things to make is samplers - and here is one that I made for a couple of friends who recently moved into new houses. For the first one I made, I used red and black because I absolutely love red accents in my home, but then I got the idea to make the houses really colorful - they kind of remind me of the homes I saw in Bermuda! I think they turned out so cute. I used My Favorite Things dies for the houses and a variety of different scrapbook pages. I framed mine with black frames, but the colorful houses also look very cute in a white frame.
I spent last weekend working on these and it was total and complete therapy! It's renewed my love for samplers. Working with paper is good for the soul!

Have a great weekend. I'm off to make a chocolate cake with chocolate icing. My daughter is turning 22 tomorrow and that's what the birthday girl has requested. GOOD CHOICE!
Tonight our Bunco group is getting together and I want to give the hostess a little somethin' - and here it is! In honor of St. Patrick's Day this month, I had to try out a jar. I love it! The leftover green knobs from my Christmas jars came in handy.
Hershey's gold nuggets are perfect inside the jar - looks like a pot of gold! I have finished the samplers I've been working on and I'll post them tomorrow. We have a beautiful day here in Katy. I love days like this. The sun is shining, not a cloud in the sky, and I'm wearing shorts and flip-flops on February 22nd. That's why I love Texas and that's why I live in Texas! I've been doing some stamping. Unfortunately, sometimes we need to make sympathy cards. I have a dear friend whose father passed away over the weekend. I think this card is a nice card for a sympathy card, but when you have a classic design like this, it really is suitable for any sentiment. I like it especially for sympathy cards, though, and made this one for my friend. It's sad to lose your dad. I know all too well what that feels like. Ugh! It's awful. Here's my card.
Guess what else I'm doing? I'm spray-painting jar lids in my garage. Ha! I can't let St. Patty's Day get by without a jar holding Andes mints. I'll share it when I'm finished. I'm also currently working on a small sampler that I'll show you soon! Have a good day!
I love it when the weekend rolls around. My family is all home and everything feels right with the world! I've been wanting to tell you about my recent love affair with jars. I just can't get enough of them. I made some for Christmas gifts and just recently made some for Valentine's Day, and I'm already thinking about St. Patrick's Day and Easter. Use a jar that has a screw lid. I've tried Mason jars, but I prefer jars that have a single piece for the lid. Drill a hole in the center, spray paint the lid whatever color you'd like, and then add a beautiful drawer knob to make it look beautiful! If you have a knob that is flat, you can Super Glue it to the lid, eliminating the need for drilling. My dear husband drills the holes for me and is even kind enough to cut down the screw so it doesn't show on the inside of the jar, but if your husband isn't willing, flat knobs work! Of course attaching an adorable tag finishes the project off nicely. Here are several I made for Christmas gifts using a round crystal knob, a diamond-shaped crystal knob, and an oblong crystal knob. They are perfect for hostess gifts. What I like about jar projects is that you can save your own jars. Spaghetti sauce jars and jelly jars are perfect. I have a nice little stash going of jars I'm saving for future projects. I'm telling you, I'm in love with this!

Aren't they fun? I made a canister set that I put Christmas candy in. The red canisters look cute with Valentine's Day candy, too!

I also painted some lids for Valentine's Day and they are super-cute! This can be a relatively inexpensive gift, unless you use expensive knobs or candy, but they are special because you made them yourself! The tags finish it off perfectly.
I hope your day is off to a great start! I wanted to share my Valentine's Day card with you for 2017. I copied this directly from Maile Belles' card using all Papertrey products. I love the softness of the colors. The paper is White and Soft Stone. The inks are Harvest Gold, Raspberry Fizz, and Sweet Blush. I don't have the stamp set Maile used, but I used what I had on hand and it worked out just fine. If you have a "Love" stamp, just stamp it three times in different colors, add your black "You," and it really pops. I love this idea! I added the Silver Glimmer Paper circles (which is a Stampin' Up! product) to add some bling because you know I love bling. Hope you enjoy it - and Happy Valentine's Day to you!
Yesterday was a special day for our family. My mom turned 87 years old! We took a road trip to Brenham, Texas - which is a wonderful town that we lived in many, many years ago. I went to elementary school there and had many birthday parties at the city park. We still have good friends there - and had lunch with one of my mom's dearest friends, Marice, as well as her daughter, Marla. We ate at the Funky Art Café and had quiche. It was fun to hear mom and Marice visiting about the good old days back in Brenham! Don't you think my mom looks phenomenal? She's the young lady in the middle!
Last weekend we also had a family birthday party for mom. As many family members as were able came in to town and we had a good time together. We ordered pizzas in and had chocolate fondue with all the trimmings. It was a great birthday for mom with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and in-laws. Now let's look forward to reaching 88!
I've been exploring some new hobbies lately, one of which is embroidery. I really enjoy it. I have so much to learn about it, but there's something that draws me to it. I love that I can say anything I want on an empty canvas and turn it into a pretty picture. I took a beginner embroidery class at Michael's and it set me on fire. There are so many things I want to embroider, but it's hard to find the time. I'll get to it, I just need to be patient! I really want to get back to my cross-stitching, too. I'll get there......someday. Here is the project we made at Michael's in the beginner class that set me on fire. I couldn't wait to get home because I knew I had the perfect frame for it. I can't wait to make more!
Since I had so much fun making this "amour" picture, I tried to make an embroidered baby picture for a friend whose daughter had a baby girl. I didn't do the greatest job with it, but I'll get there. I guess it's true that practice makes perfect.......and I need lots of practice!
Yes, I'm still here! I haven't thought about my blog in the longest time until a friend informed me that if you go for a long period of time without posting anything, your blog can be deleted due to nonactivity. WHAT???? That concerned me and I panicked because I have years and years of stamping ideas and instructions that I've posted and I certainly don't want to lose all of that, so I thought I'd better say hello! Life has been good.....and I mean VERY good. I've been keeping busy. I'm still taking care of my mother, who is about to turn 87. We stay busy - there's just always something going on! I'm still stamping, I'm still making jewelry, and I'm getting back into cross-stitching (which was a hobby I adored before I was introduced to Stampin' Up!), and I'm even trying my hand at embroidery, which I really like. I have lots to learn about it, but I really do enjoy it. It reminds me of the saying, "So many crafts, so little time." I'm thoroughly enjoying my retirement; no regrets whatsoever! Life is different now, but I was ready for "different" and am happy with the changes. The slower pace suits me well and I love taking time to "smell the roses," so-to-speak!

I thought I'd post a couple of tags that I recently made, just to show you something crafty. A friend of mine, Susan, held a very nice tag swap right before Christmas. We needed to make two different tags for any occasion we wanted to. I selected Christmas and Valentine's Day. I thought they turned out so cute! If I had been smart, I would have taken pictures of all the tags I received in the swap, but most of them were Christmas tags - and during the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I needed tags, so I used them. Now I'm kicking myself for that, but here are the two tags I submitted.
Can you see all of those tiny little pearls on my Valentine's Day tag? What a pain, but without them, the tag isn't nearly as classy or cute, so I just had to add them! The Christmas tag looked so cute attached to jars of Christmas candy. That was another crafty thing I enjoyed over the holidays. I spray-painted tons of jar lids and added knobs on top, thanks to my hubby who drilled all of the holes for me. I'll share more of my jars with you soon!
It's been so nice to blog again. I'll have to try to keep this up. Ha! Have you ever done that before? Why not? At least you'll get exactly what you want, right? The pearl chain was handmade by yours truly. I love this little angel with rhinestone bling attached. She's my new best friend. Happy Birthday to Me!
I've been doing a little more stamping, so I thought I would share another one of my "business-card-sized" cards with you. This is the latest - an adorable birthday cake card for a friend who has a birthday tomorrow. Isn't it cute? The cake is coated with Crystal Effects (which I was horrified to learn that Stampin' Up! no longer carries. WHAT? That was an amazing product and I don't get that logic at all!) I'm in love with these little cards, so I'm sure you'll be seeing more. I like them because they're different - not what someone would be expecting - so I think that makes them fun! I love the two rows of embossed buttons at the bottom, along with the frilly flower and a pearl. Have a good day and we'll talk soon!
Believe it or not, I've been stamping today! Even though the cards are tiny - they're only 3-1/2 x 2 - I think they turned out so cute and I've had a lot of fun making them this morning. I consider myself to be one lucky gal because I enjoy making jewelry AND stamping, both of which are incredible creative outlets. I get up every day and decide whether I want to make a piece of jewelry or make a beautiful card! Making jewelry has won out lately because it's a new hobby for me and I'm still learning so much about it, but today, I wanted to make cards! Thought you might enjoy seeing what I did. Isn't it pretty? It opens up so you can write your message inside. Now my mind is racing with the possibilities of "tiny" Halloween cards, Thanksgiving cards, and Christmas cards. I'm really attracted to the smallness of this card - it's the size of a business card - but it takes just as much time as a regular-sized card. Adios - have a good night!
Well, I'm at it again - making spool necklaces this time. They are absolutely lovely and I just can't get enough of them! This one is one of my favorites - it has a nice vintage feel to it - and it seems to look good with no matter what I'm wearing. I have made about six other types of spool necklaces that I'll share with you soon. I hope you're all doing okay. I've been busy like a little bee making my Scissor Babies, which has become quite a popular item! I'm glad to see it. They are so cute and fun to make - and they make wonderful Christmas presents for your crafting and scrapbooking friends! All is well on the homefront - just busy, busy, busy making jewelry.

Our Second Annual Crafting Getaway Weekend is coming up soon and I'm hoping to get my Christmas cards made. I'll share them with you when they're finished. I'm really looking forward to that three-and-a-half-day weekend with my crafting buddies. It's nice to catch up with all of them and just enjoy the time - uninterrupted - crafting! Have a good day - and onward through the fog!!! My Etsy Shop will give you the details - www.madebyjimmisdaughter.etsy.com - about my spool necklaces and my Scissor Babies!
